Als am 6. Februar 2014 die spanische Guardia Civil gewaltsam gegen den Versuch einiger hundert Geflüchteter vorging, die stark gesicherte Grenze zwischen Marokko und der spanischen Exklave Ceuta zu überqueren, wurden 15 Menschen getötet, weitere blieben vermisst. Sechs Jahre nach diesem Gewaltakt, den sie als Massaker von Tarajal erinnerten, trafen sich Angehörige der Opfer und der Vermissten, politische und künstlerische Aktivist_innen im marokkanischen Oujda zum Gedenken und zum Protest, kurz: CommemorAction. Daraus bildet sich seitdem eine internationale Bewegung, die den 6. Februar als „Tag des Kampfes gegen das Regime des Todes an den Grenzen“ begreift und mit der Forderung nach „Wahrheit, Gerechtigkeit und Entschädigung für die Migrationsopfer und ihre Familien“ verbindet. An zahlreichen Orten werden an diesem Tagen dezentrale Aktionen stattfinden, die sowohl Gedenken als auch Protest sein sollen. Einer dieser Orte ist Calais. Wir dokumentieren im Folgenden den Aufruf zur Teilnahme.
„Commemoraction“ of the dead and missing at the borders on February 6, 2022
We, citizens, collectives, organizations, solidarity activists and displaced people in Calais, join the international call of February 6 for the world day of struggle against deadly border policies, and to demand truth, justice and reparation for people in exile who are victims of these policies, and their families.
We call on all citizens, collectives, organizations, and activists to join us on Sunday 6 February at 2pm in Calais for a march in commemoration of the dead and disappeared at the border.
At the time of writing, 342 people have died at the French-British border since 1999. To this grim tally must be added the missing, often unaccounted for, sometimes nameless and without history.
These last months have been marked by tragic events:
In November 2021, 4 people were hit by a train while trying to find shelter under a bridge from the weather and hide from police forces.
On November 24, 2021, 27 people died at sea off the coast of Calais while trying to reach the United Kingdom – the deadliest shipwreck at this border in history.
On January 14, 2022, another person drowned; the next day another was hit by a truck in a parking lot.
On January 25, 2022, we learn of the death of another person who was also hit by a vehicle while trying to reach England.
The living conditions on French territory also kill!
These dead, missing, mutilated and traumatized people are the victims of French, British and European border policies – racist and murderous policies that push people in exile towards ever more dangerous crossings and ever more undignified living conditions.
